Bart Edgemon

Bart Edgemon was the son of Allen Edgemon and Mahala Webb. Bart was born about 1840 in Bradley Co., TN and died 03 Mar 1920 in Catoosa Co., GA of influenza. He married (1) Sarah Sally Brewer 29 Aug 1867 in Stone Church, Catoosa Co., GA, and they had nine children. She was born 1843 in Georgia to John Brewer and died Aft. 1900. Bart married (2) Malinda Pearl Riddle on 23 Jul 1901, and they had seven children.

According to family lore, Bart rode with the William C. Quantrill Confederate guerrilla band, though I have never been able to find any record of Bart being associated with Quantrill's Raiders. They became infamous for burning Lawrence, Kansas in 1863 & killing about 150 Union sympathizers in the town and burning many buildings to the ground. Frank James, brother of Jesse was on that raid. After the war, Bart returned home to Catoosa Co. & farmed most of the rest of his life in the Greenwood area.

He is buried in Ebeneezer Baptist Church Cemetery, Ringgold, GA. Bart and Sarah were the parents of Albert Allen Edgeman, born 15 Nov 1886 in James Co., TN and died 04 Apr 1966 in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA. He married Leatha Mae Sutton 08 Apr 1906 in Graysville, Catoosa Co., GA. She was born 03 Apr 1887 in James Co., TN and died 29 Dec 1963 in Chickamauga, Walker Co., GA. They are buried in Ebeneezer Cemetery in Ringgold, Catoosa Co., GA.
