He married (2) Gladys Jones on 12 May 1961 in Chickamauga, GA. Truman Fuller Bates (right) was born 21 Sep 1912 in Whitfield Co., GA and died 22 Apr 1995 in Palm Beach Co., FL. He married Edna Agnes Edgeman 25 Dec 1933 in Catoosa Co., GA. Herschall and Truman were the two youngest surving children of Tully Democrat Bates and Laura Deck. (A girl, Marjorie, died at birth in 1910.)
