Catoosa County, Georgia school

This school picture was taken around 1930 in Catoosa County, Georgia near or in Ringgold. I can only identify one for sure. And that is the boy sitting with curly blonde hair, Albert Levi "Pud" Edgeman. I'm fairly certain the girl standing on the right with a dark coat is Pud's sister Edna.

Ebeneezer Baptist Church

I love this picture. This photo was taken in 1927 in a cotton field in Ringgold, Catoosa County, Georgia. Interstate 75 now goes through this very field. Notice the telegraph lines in the background.

They lived near the church. In fact you could see the church from their house. They attended Ebeneezer Baptist Church for many years.

James Terrell Deck and Sarah Jane Pullen family

James Terrell Deck was born on 8 May 1818 in Rutherford Co., NC. He died on 25 Oct 1909 in Tunnel Hill, GA. He married Sarah Jane Pullen, daughter of Thomas Pullen and Mary W"Polly" Woolbright on 8 Apr 1849 in GA. She was born 26 Aug 1832 in Wilkes Co., GA. She died on 29 Jul 1909, Whitfield Co., GA.

James and Sarah had the following children:
1. Jacob Deck was born on 8 May 1850 and died on 11 Oct 1912. He married Alice Anderson.

2. Jimmie Deck was born on 25 Nov 1852 and died on 25 May 1935 . She married Benjamin Franklin Bates.

3. Mary Houston Deck was born on 23 Jun 1855 and died on 28 Oct 1880.

4. Joseph "Joe" Deck was born on 25 May 1858 and died on 13 Nov 1919. He married Harriet Elizabeth "Hattie" Harris.

5. Leonard "Lee" Deck was born on 15 Apr 1863 and died 6 Apr 1947. He married Armuchee Rosser.

6.  James "Jim" Deck was born on 18 Apr 1866 and died on 28 Sep 1924. He married Emma Jones.

7. Robert Deck was born on 30 Aug 1868 and died on 20 Sep 1952. He married Adelia Conally.

8. Laura Deck was born on 13 Dec 1870 and died on 9 Sep 1961. She married Tully Democrat Bates (brother of Benjamin Franklin Bates who married Jimmie).

9. Charley Deck was born on 22 Jul 1873 and died 14 Jan 1918. He married Myrtis MacKinney Walter.

10. Matt Deck was born on 21 Nov 1875 and died on 11 Dec 1952. He married Vida Wood.

Nancy Edith "Sugar" Partin

Nancy Edith Partin was born in Florida on 12 Aug 1902 to John Taylor Partin and Ida Frances Beasley. My grandma has always told me that she is the one on the left, the one with frizzy hair and the other one was a friend. I think the two girls look a lot a like though, so maybe it's her sister. She had two sisters that I know of, one who was two years younger than her, Elsie Mae and another that was four years younger, Maude Temperance. Nancy married Robert Vernon Helms sometime between 1920 and 1922. They had four children, Olive Francis, Evelyn Doris, James Robert "Jimmy", and Donald Rodney. She died on 01 Apr 1989 in Miami, FL, and she is buried in Southern Memorial Gardens in Dade Co., FL.

Tully Democrat Bates was born 07 Aug 1860 in Catoosa Co., GA, and died 13 Apr 1939 in Catoosa Co., GA. He was the son of Joseph Isaac Manning Bates and Mary Elizabeth Young. Laura Deck was born 13 Dec 1870 in Whitfield Co., GA, and died 09 Sep 1961 in Ringgold, Catoosa Co., GA. She was the daughter of James Terrell Deck and Sarah Jane Pullen. Laura married Tully Democrat Bates on 04 Dec 1892 in on the road, Whitfield Co., GA. Tully and Laura are buried in Tunnel Hill Cemetery in Tunnel Hill, GA.

Nina Bates born 13 May 1895 in Whitfield Co., GA and died 18 Apr 1994 in Little Rock, Pulaski Co., AR. She married Dewey Gadston Glasscock 20 Aug 1922 in Tunnel Hill, Whitfield Co., GA. He was born 14 May 1900 in Shelby Co., AL and died 15
May 1964 in Little Rock, Pulaski Co., AR. They are buried in Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, AR. Nina was a school teacher.

Ola Bates born 04 Feb 1898 in Whitfield Co., GA and died 12 May 1959 in her sister's home, Catoosa Co., GA. She is buried in Tunnel Hill Cemetery in Tunnel Hill, GA.

Wallace Dewitt Bates born 09 Sep 1900 in Mt. Vernon, GA and died 11 Jul 1969. He married Lena Inez Farr on 02 Jun 1927 in Tunnel Hill, Whitfield Co., GA. She was born 08 Apr 1900 in Chattanooga, TN and died 02 Aug 1994 in Dalton, GA. They are buried in Tunnel Hill Cemetery in Tunnel Hill, GA.

Lucy Bates born 23 Dec 1902 in Whitfield Co., GA died 09 Feb 1993 in Ft. Ogelthorpe, GA. She married Charles Spurgeon Hackett on 05 Oct 1919 in Catoosa Co., GA. He was born 09 Feb 1898 in Whitfield Co., GA and died 11 Mar 1956 in Catoosa
Co., GA. They are buried in Ebeneezer Cemetery in Ringgold, Catoosa Co., GA.

Herschall Vincent Bates born 23 Nov 1906 in Whitfield Co., GA and died 22 Oct 1991 in Chattanooga, TN. He married (1)Allene Sharp Thomas on 23 May 1930 in Dalton, GA. She was born 19 May 1903 in Dalton, GA and died 07 Aug 1960 in Tunnel Hill, Whitfield Co., GA. Allene and Herschall are buried in Tunnel Hill Cemetery in Tunnel Hill, GA. He married (2) Gladys Jones on 12 May 1961 in Chickamauga, GA. She was born 19 Jun 1912 in Walker Co., GA and died 17 May 1989 in Dalton, GA. Gladys is buried in Rock Spring Metodist Church Cemetery, Rock Spring, GA.

Joseph Isaac Manning Bates was born 6 Jun 1827 and died 14 Feb 1909. Mary Elizabeth Young/Richardson was born 5 Nov 1828 and died 3 Mar 1909. They were married on 25 Jul 1850. Interestingly, Tully and Laura each lost both of their parents, all four of them dying in 1909.

Bart Edgemon death certificate

Bart Edgemon was the son of Allen Edgemon and Mahala Webb. He died on 03 Mar 1920 in Catoosa Co., GA of influenza.

1880 Marion County, TN census

Bart Edgemon is listed in the 1880 census with his wife, Sarah, and their children William, James, John, Ezekial, Thomas, and Fannie. Their son, Albert Allen Edgeman, my great great grandfather, was born in 1886. Bart was born in 1845 and died in 1920. Sarah was born around 1834 and died after 1900. Bart later married Pearl Riddle and had other children.
